When students are reading, some choose the books from the reading list their schools give. Other choose books by themselves. Which do you prefer？孩子阅读的书单是学校给好，还是自己决定好
Well, I think it’s better to select books from reading lists provided by our teachers. Because first, it will be more helpful for our study. The content may be related to what we have learnt from the classes, so it’s like a kind of review or consolidation. And it will be also convenient for us to finish our assignments like papers or presentations. It’s a good resource. And, also, I think books picked by our teachers will have higher quality, like they may be classic literature or master pieces. But a student will usually just choose some comics or some low quality popular fictions on some shallow topics like romantic relationship.
一种叫 pika 的小老鼠是否会因为全球变暖而濒危。
分论点三：冰川消融， pika 没有了庇护所。
According to the passage, pikas will have the danger of becoming extinct due to global warming. In light of the lecture, however, global warming will not threaten the population of the animal. To begin with, the author mentions that global warming causes the rise of temperature, and overheating will lead to the death of pikas. On the contrary, to quote the lecture, the temperature varies when it comes to their habitats. Pikas will find some sheltered places which are much cooler. Therefore, the population of pikas will remain stable. In addition, according to the passage, pikas will fail to collect and store enough food in the summer as a result of the high temperature. The lecturer opposes this statement by claiming that the high temperature in the summer would make pikas eat and consume less food, which would allow pikas to store more food for later use. Finally, the passage indicates that snow is melting at a faster rate because of global warming, so thick layer of snow, which pikas use to protect themselves, is now disappearing. Quite the contrary, in light of the lecture, snow melting means the winter will end soon, and pikas will have more opportunities to reproduce, which will make the population of pikas recover.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Economy growth should not be slowed down by concerns about environment.
There is no doubt that economic growth is the basis for people’s life and people will find it difficult to enjoy anything else without a decent economy. Therefore, some people claim that economic growth could never be slowed down despite its negative impact on the environment. However, in my opinion, environment protection is as crucial as the economy and we cannot sacrifice it in order to boost the economy. Humans’ ignorance of the environment might cause tremendous harm to their health, which cannot be compensated for by the economic growth. It is universally acknowledged that in the past, a lot of countries, especially the less developed ones, did not take the preservation of nature seriously so as to ensure a decent economic growth. Thus, the natural balance has been ruined to a great extent and it would cause huge disasters to human beings. For instance, since the beginning of 2020, almost the whole world has undergone a widespread epidemic of COVID-19. This disease has led to a great recession of the world’s economy and the infected population still keeps rising. It is assumed by experts that this virus infection resulted from people’s hunting and killing of the virus’ natural carrier such as bats. People’s destruction of the nature ends up hurting people and their health. However developed the economy is, it would fail to make up for it. Also, a good environment will significantly facilitate the tourism of a country, which will bring huge benefits to the country ’ s economy. Many countries around the world, such as New Zealand and Austria, are able to attract millions of tourists every year with their fresh air and beautiful landscapes, who contribute to the local economy greatly with their consumption. In this way, environment protection has become a catalyst for the local economic growth. For example, when I was working for my previous company, I visited Laos on a business trip in 2014. To my surprise, tourism contributed more than 50% of the annual GDP growth of the country back then. That was because Luang Prabang, a city near Mekong River, enjoyed a worldwide fame for its waterfalls and Buddhism heritage, and a great many travelers would come to Laos for that every year. A good natural environment, combined with local culture, will greatly help boost the local economy. In conclusion, although economic growth plays an essential role in the society, the environment issue also has to be taken into consideration, for people’s health depends on the environment, and a prosperous tourism resulting from a good environment contributes a lot to the local economy.
